About Maharastra - Gateway of India
Maharashtra is a state that can’t be summed up in one word or phrase, as it changes vastly depending on where you are in it, from the hustle and bustle of large cities to the peace and tranquillity of the countryside to the ancient caves cut into rock and sunrises on the beaches.
Mumbai will probably be your first port of call on your journey through Maharashtra, as it’s probably one of the fastest-paced cities in the world. Massive skyscrapers sit side by side with old colonial buildings, and the local trains zoom around at breakneck speeds. Spend some time walking around Marine Drive after dark or visiting the Gateway of India; both will offer you an insight into Mumbai’s vibrancy and charm.
Maharashtra has long been regarded as one of the many modern cities in this country and, at the same time, has become a location for those looking to experience peacefulness and serenity in the breathtaking countryside and some of India’s finest hill stations that provide you with a respite from the chaotic pace of our world today.
Some nearby areas, such as Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar, are only 2 hours away from Mumbai by car and are ideal for those escaping the frenetic pace of daily life. Misty valleys, breathtaking natural wonders, and a cooler climate all make towns like these good places to go for weekend trips, especially in the rainy season, which lasts from June to September, as well as in the winter, between October and February.
Maharashtra is also rich in history and heritage and has two UNESCO Heritage Sites, Ajanta Caves and Ellora Caves, which contain some of the earliest styles of sculpture, carved in rock, and architecture representing the three major religions of India (Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism).
In addition, spirituality is a major focus in Maharashtra. One of the most popular sites for spirituality is Shirdi; through the temple located at Shirdi, thousands of people visit each day, and it is usually on most people’s list when they visit Maharashtra. There are also some beautiful sandy beaches along the Konkan Coast in addition to all of these other attractions as well!
